Facilitation Skills

To facilitate an event requires the skills of a topical trainer and those of an expert in group processes. The facilitator plans a program so that the sponsors of the event reach their goals with the targeted audience. In order to ensure full participation, the facilitator addresses all questions that are important at personal and collective levels. Acting as a point of focus and a guide in the process, the facilitator supports the participants in creating best-case scenarios in their matter of concern.

The task is to assist a group in exploring situations, debating issues, agreeing to common goals and committing to actions with individual accountability.

This seminar develops skills to become a successful facilitator:

  • Planning the facilitation to reach specific goals
  • Teaming up with other event sponsors if necessary
  • Simplifying complexity: clarifying aims and issues, problems and possible solutions
  • Phases of facilitation
  • Leveraging group dynamics
  • Guiding discussion
  • Using process techniques and visual aids
  • Dealing with conflicts of interest/social conflicts if necessary
  • Using the VIPP methodology
  • Creating a library of methods.
